Dame Vivienne Westwood was born 8 April 1941. the start of her fashion career is legendary. Today, this self-taught designer and businesswoman belongs to the exclusive circle of creative people who set the tone in the world of fashion. In mid 1970s, Westwood together with Malcolm McLauren, made newspaper headlines with their S&M clothing and pornographic, aggresive-looking accessories designed for the London “scene” and punk music group, the Sex Pistols. Since 1971, Westwood’s secondhand boutique, Let It Rock, on King’s Road, in London, was an insider’s source for Teddy Boy suits, then Rockers’ gear, and later African fashion. Westwood, trained as an elementary school teacher. metamorphosed into the Queen of Punk.

In early 1980s, Westwood and McLauren presented their first catwalk shows. Westwood states: “Creativity comes from technique.” and her credo is “Fashion is about sex.”
